Hi, I'm Alex Shoop! I'm a PharmD candidate at VCU on a mission to move the needle in healthcare. I am incredibly excited about the power of AI to optimize patient care and bridge the gap for underserved communities. My goal is to integrate technology and better communication to build a more connected, equitable healthcare system for everyone!

Muskegon, Michigan

Raised in Muskegon, Michigan. Graduated from Oakridge High School, where my passion for science and helping others first took root.

2018 – 2020

Ave Maria University

Played collegiate football while pursuing pre-medical studies. Learned discipline, teamwork, and resilience that continue to shape my approach to challenges.

Research

2020 – 2022

University of Michigan

Earned Bachelor of Science in Biology. Immersed myself in research and discovered my calling in healthcare and pharmaceutical sciences.

Service

2022 – 2024

AmeriCorps Service

Served as a college adviser, guiding first-generation students through the college application and financial aid process. Co-founded a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, GLESF, to provide scholarships to my alma mater, Oakridge High School.

Innovation

2024 – Present

VCU School of Pharmacy

Pursuing Doctor of Pharmacy degree in Richmond, VA. Conducting AI research in pharmacy education while exploring career options.

Global Perspective

Traveling is my favorite way to hit reset. Beyond the classroom I am a student of the world. I have explored 25+ U.S. states and a handful of countries. I love seeing new places, meeting different people, and finding the best local food I can. My faith keeps me grounded and travel keeps me curious. This journal is just a place for me to document those stories and the things I learn along the way.
